Put Your Business Model On It’s Head

Cars run forwards.  And they run backwards.  Whether you’re in drive or reserve, you go somewhere, the car runs the same (assuming it’s not a clunker), and you get to your destination.

Business models should do the same.

If a business model works, it should work when you turn it on it’s head.

Create models like well oiled machines so they are adaptable, flexible, and moldable.

Is this a ridiculous thought process?  Whatdoyathink?

  • I think you are spot on with this Sarah. One of moves I learned in developing strategy came from a book called "Why Not? How to Use Everyday Ingenuity to Solve Problems Big and Small". It's a good read by Barry Nalebuff and Ian Ayers. In the ook, thry talk about taking problems, and working backwards y thinking about them upside down. This has always helped me frame up everything from blogs posts to business models and even issues in business relationships. It works.

If anything, I agree with your thinking here. Seems like their are other peeps that do as well... :)
  • Thanks Nate, gotta check out that book. Or "ook" at you call it :-)
