I tend to think that the media actively portrayed the rescession as scary. We were so inundated with the constant doom and gloom coming from the media, it was a breath of fresh air to hear how well other were doing considering all things. Like the recession is good because it gets rid of the bad businesses/business people and only the strong survive.
