It’s Okay To Ask For Things – You May Get What You Want

Digital Anthropology

A few weeks ago, I blogged that “I will get to SOBCon”.  Well, I did it!  Not literally – I’m not there yet, but I will be.  Yesterday I was awarded a 2009 Northeastern University Provost Research Award.  I wrote a grant to my school asking them to send me to SOBCon.  I explained the importance of social media, the ability of social media to help the school and its students, and noted my previous social media efforts for the University.  There are some smart people over here at Northeastern University.  I’m so happy that they recognize the value in this endeavor and thank everyone who helped me along to way to receiving this grant.

I often forget that things can happen – you just have to work for it.  It’s easy to get into the mindset that “I won’t get the grant” or “They’re not going to care” or “There’s no money to send me”.  All of these are wrong.  Stop thinking and GO FOR whatever it is that you want.  You might be surprised to find out that you actually get it.

To show how grateful I am, I’m deeming it “Thank You Tuesday” on Twitter!  (#thankyoutuesday).  Thank You Thursday sounds better, but I CAN’T WAIT to say thank you to alllll the people to made this possible!  Sometimes, if you want things, you just have to ask.  I am so excited to be at SOBCon with such wonderful bloggers and entrepreneurs!  Is it May 1 yet?

THANK YOU
